I'm going to write a PSA for my fellow noobs about setting up enclosures before buying. I understand why you old fohgees in the hobby set up before you buy your spider, but that may not be practical. I set up 3 enclosures for L.P. Casey sold me, and by the time I had gotten them I realized I had made a mistake. Talked to Casey about it too. Almost gave the poor wahmen a heart attack, and was in a panic to fullfill the housing requirements needed. Also, don't just buy bamboo tongs. Get some metal ones too. Without the rubber tips. The bamboo, and rubber tips are a nightmare for enclosure maintenance. As friendly, supportive, and enthusiastic a lot of members are on this forum, no one told me that, that I could remember, and that could have been a good idea to begin with. Here are my tools for tarantula keeping. Minus the duct tape. I don't know where that came from...View attachment 38759
I guess you're right! I will probably figure a lot of things out when I actually get my little one, but at least im semi-prepared! The advices I got here will help me a lot tho, but I still have a lot to learn.
Where do you get the bamboo tongs? Now I have 30 cm angled and straight metal tongs :p

I personally don't own any bamboo tongs and have only used metal straight ones if needed for maintenance -please don't use tongs to feed your T as it can damage their fangs:)

@Tnoob we try to be friendly and offer advice to all members here on the forum-we all share opinions and advice between one another...if someone chooses to listen and take the advice given is out of our hands:)
we can only try for the good of the Ts after all....
I'm not saying you guys are wrong in anyway, I'm just saying what I see from a less experienced point of view. You guys are great. It's just minor details that sometimes aren't mentioned to new hobbyist, that in fact made things stressful for me. I love tarantula forum..

Hand feeding is the easiest way I think. Just pick whatever is going to be crossing the bridge of death, and 'ere the other side ye see..

I've never tong fed any of mine, I just drop the food in and let them hunt naturally.
As do I. The bamboo is more or less to crush things that need crushing. . when the babies get older they can learn to fend for themselves. Also, I don't give them tap water, and I always wash my hands before feeding. Because I'm a filthy smoker, and nicotine is a natural pesticide.
