Looks like a wolfspider or possible huntsman to me. And actually, based on the eyes I'd say it is a wolfspider.

Dang it! I was thinking it was possibly an Ummidia, but you are the second person to say wolfspider. Any idea of genus?

Definitely not a Ummidia. The size and arrangement of the eyes are a dead giveaway.

I would guess Geolycosa. Possibly Geolycosa rafaelana.

Ohhh, very possible.

The only wolf spider close to this size I know is Hogna carolinesis. I need to read up on these guys.

Hogna are much bigger. I found a female carrying babies here in Texas that was three inches long. That one looks more like an inch or so.

Heh, in my mind it looks bigger, but now I see the size reference with the finger....no wonder I was having issues with this. The Hogna we have here are HUGE.
