Hey guys. Me and my partner have just acquired a tarantula that was going to get rid of, neither of us know about tarantula really. Could anybody give us an insight into what species it is, and what would be the best terrarium for it? And what we could put in it to make it have a good home? It has come in this which looks a bit minging. We have put some clean water in and put a cricket in for it which it hasn't touched. He/she is an absolute beauty. Many thanks

I am not 100% on the species. But that enclosure looks to be fine. Although you could upgrade it, if you want to. For me, the best upgrade you could make, would be to add some better & slightly deeper substrate. I use coconut coir in mine. A nice piece of cork bark, preferably a piece that has an arch, to it would be good too.

I also like to add a little height, so personally use cheap plastic fish tank plants.

And yes I do use the bold coloured ones too. I prefer green plants, but sometimes the bold colours look good too. Personally, I buy them by the pack for a few £'s from The Range etc.

A decent & cheapish source for many things Tarantula, here in the UK, are Swell.

Just a little note. Your T's abdomen is plenty good sized so no need to worry over eating! By the looks he/ she been eating real good anyway so be ready for pre-molt where they refuse food! Can't really tell from the pic. but if it's a curly hair (T. Albilosum) it could be a long pre-molt so don't worry about your T not eating. They won't eat during pre-molt and after the molt should not be offered food for a fortnight or so! If it's your first it's hard not to worry but things usually work out fine. Just try to be patient!

Phone finally blew up your pics and your T looks a lot like T Albilosum! This make her terrestrial and the set up she is in looks good for terrestrial T's. Still by just a pic can't be % but does look like a Honduran/Nicaraguan curly hair Tarantula. Wishing someone else would chime in on the ID. Lol...happy spoodering!!
