So I am on the mailing list for Eresus Spider Shop and I got this announcement in my email today. I knew there were some looking for this species, but I am guessing all are spoken for as it says that there are already 30x the number on the wait list as there are slings.

Maybe this should be put in the Fir Sale section? I wasn't sure.

I too expected them to be higher, but I did not even check the website. Why bother when there is more than 30x more interest than there are slings. Also, I am not jumping at them as where I live, only three species of Ts are legal: G. pulchra, rosea, pulchripes. Maybe if I had a real chance of getting one I might have been tempted.

No, because you are not the seller

All the more reason to throw your hat into the ring, low risk, but you miss 100% of the shots you don't take; guaranteed.

I'm a cheapskate anyway, but I think I'd rather take a shot that leaves most of $200 in my pocket. A nice spider, but with the price, hype etc. it comes across as some kind of collector's item pokemon than - at the risk of sounding overly sentimental - a pet.

Yeah, I have just heard/read really good things about this tarantula, that it seems "inquisitive" or at least interested in exploring/ being active.

But what is up for sale is the first instar, and something that young and vulnerable gives me pause. I may start with a more common tarantula to test my tiny T parenting skills on.

That's how I felt about T seladonia at first, and now.

Interest =/= action. Until the money changes hands, interest has very little weight. Some people may balk at the price. Some people may be driven away by the size of the slings offered. Some may have interest but only passing. Some people may have circumstances that prevent them from jumping on this sale. When work had us go through some marketing stuff, they harped on the percentage of "interest" that turns into genuine sales, and that number was surprisingly low. It's a good number to drum up sales and generate additional interest, but converting interest into sales is always a challenge, even on scarce items. I'm sure there are a lot of people showing interest, but until people put money down, anyone here has as much of an opportunity to snag one as anyone else. I got the email too, but $200 for a tiny sling pushes me right out of the running, and I definitely had interest.

Yeah, good points @Cor I just figured that with this species being so rare and desirable that it would sell out fast. It still sounds like some are still available. Maybe high price along with tiny size is keeping some people away.
