Sorry, I can't empathize with this. I love all spiders, great and small. I had a teeny spider that lived in the shade of a lamp on my nightstand. When I turned on the light, it got a bit warm for it, and would crawl up the wall. Then there was my shower spider, that made home between the shampoo and body wash bottles. I saved that little guy from a watery grave many of times. Then, there are the countless others living in my garden, and I gladly toss them a cricket if I bought too many. My partner knows I'm up to no good when he hears me talking in my "spider voice," and I'm nowhere near my Ts.

My fascination is with pretty much all inverts. When I see my fellow tarantula lovers talking about squishing the smaller, more evolved but shorter lived cousins it makes me sad. I don't get many spiders in my house, but when I do I treat them as guests. I took a shower with a wolf spider a few days ago. She seemed to enjoy the warm air, but wasn't there the next night, and then was there again tonight. I have to be careful because she seems to like my towel. I'm constantly watching all kinds of bugs in my yard. Orb weavers, wolf spiders everywhere, mantids, ant lions, lots of interesting inverts. We get quite a few dung beetles here..I've watched them push a small piece of perfectly round horse crap all the way across my yard. It's actually pretty epic.. I've never been afraid of anything but bees, when I was a kid, and that ended long ago. Sharks though, are another matter.

Oh, but can I educate you on the major misconceptions of sharks! The great white is, hands down, my favorite animal in the world, and all other shark species coming in a very close second. Yes, they can do some damage, but more people are killed a year by a coconut falling on their head than by a shark. Fear of a certain animal was something I've never understood. Of course, there are some I don't particularly like, such as mosquitoes and leeches, only because I don't like sharing my blood without consent. And hyenas. They're just a@@holes. ;)

Oh I know, my fear of sharks is totally irrational, and probably misplaced and uninformed. I still fear them. :) Why hyenas though? I've always admired them. Sharks are eating machines, with those soulless dolls eyes..we're nothing but a floating sandwich to them, out of our element. Hyenas have the mental capacity to be afraid of us.

Hippopotamus kill more people every year than any other animal. Phobia are simply the result of ignorance. Once educated many people lose the phobia entirely, others are able to at least cope with it.

I find this totally bizarre that anyone that loves T's could hate spiders. I will agree that I don't appreciate spiders in the house but would appreciate T's running loose in the house even more!

I'm hoping I will eventually see spiders in the same light as tarantulas, I think I am very slowly losing some of my fear of them.

I watch a ton of nature shows, and whenever I hear that whooping bark, I grumble. I mean, the camera catches the lion, panther, or other large carnivore, exert all that energy to bring down a sizable prey, only to be robbed by those little jerks. Maybe I'd respect them more if they also put in some effort, instead of stealing their way through survival.

Hyena do plenty of huntng themselves. And lions steal frmr them. There is a literal gang war war between lions and hyenas.

Yeah, I get that, but doesn't make me like them any more. Probably because I'm biased and will always root for the big cats in that region.

I'm so confused...I never kill any spider, not even the widows we get in this area, (I do move those away from the house though) I happily catch and release all of them, only thing I might kill are invasive ants, mosquitoes and house flys....

I'm with you 100%

Widows, orb weavers, and jumpings are cute. Huntsman and cellars are not, they are 2-3 times leggier than matured male Ts. Urghh...

I used to hate cellar spiders! Only a year or so ago! Wasn't until I talked to dennydee on here who mentioned they actually keep them as pets, that I figured why not, since my basement is filled anyways. They are extremely interesting and very skilled hunters. Its just the long thin legs that creep me out. I won't say I'll never kill one though. It's winter here and putting them outside they'd die but when they crawl across my desk I don't just let them go lol. Too many in the basement already. I have kept several as pets but probably squished just as many :D
