Chilean Rose Aggressive?

I've had this girl for about 13 years. About 2 years ago I went to take her out and she reared up. I became cautious and put the container lid in front of her instead of my hand. She bit it! Several times! Needless to say I have not handled her since. Has anyone experienced or heard of this? She was so docile for the 10-11 years prior to this incident.

Really? So you are saying she could be docile again?
I'm not so sure I have the guts to try picking her up again.

Use something soft to prod her, like a paint brush.. if she shows aggression, leave her alone, if not, go for it.. I don't really like to handle my Ts, personally, but if something you enjoy doing, you just have to read her body language.. I've had tarantulas that are suppose to be extremely aggressive that would crawl on my hand without any issues, and have had "docile" ones that would like nothing better than to make my hand their next meal.. just have to pay attention to their behavior. :)

She may very well be docile the next time. They are unpredictable creatures. I never put my hand into any enclosure for a t to walk onto. I normally don't handle at all but my daughter owns a few ts and likes to handle now and again. What I do (or she does now that she is almost 14) is use a paintbrush to coax her into a deli. Then we can let the t come out of the deli and onto her hand.

Agreed. Mine had me fooled the first few months then all of a sudden started attacking everything. She's calming down again.

She's still my most interesting. Always in the open (despite plenty of substrate to burrow), rarely in her hide, and grooms daily. She seems to be relaxing a bit lately.

I haven't had my chilean rose very long but she seems to show her fangs readily. Quick speed when a cricket is in, but if my hand or tongs go in she doesn't run away or towards me. She just faces me in defense mode. I stay away and haven't been bitten... Yet. She likes it in and out of her hide but usually out.
