I just ordered a female OBT. I can't wait till she comes in! I'll post pictures of her when I get her and post them in the comments so keep an eye out! She's number 11 in my little tarantula family.

Congratulations on the new acquisition!

Does your family know what they are in for? The speed, attitude and bite potency that this T is capable of? This is NOT a T for beginners or folks not experienced in working with tarantulas, and rehousings can be the most dangerous part of keeping and OBT. Is there any way to delay shipment until you are there to accept the package and rehouse?

I'm in no way trying to be a kill joy, but this situation sounds dangerous.

Lol yeah they know. They aren't taking her out of the deli cub she comes in quite yet. They are just unpacking her, checking that she is okay and putting the deli cup inside her tank in the warm room. They have dealt with my other 10 numerous times, but I don't trust they won't smoosh her if she tries to run, so they are doing as much as they feel comfortable with until I get home. I have two little sisters the youngest being 8 and don't want to take that risk. I'd rather them just take the cup out and put it in a secure place until I am able to take care of her safely without putting anyone in the line of OBT fire haha!!

The rehouse won't happen until I am there :) They have dealt with my other OW and my dad actually rehoused her for me, but I know she is a calm OW and NOTHING like what I have seen from the OBT. She is only vicious when it is time to eat and has never really shown any threat signs. They know the potency of the venom and how vicious they are. I make sure everyone in my family is comfortable with a T before I get it because I think that is the best environment for my T to be in. My little sisters take the most interest in them which I think is great that they want to join the T family someday. Everyone in my family has had a chance to work with them so they feel comfortable dealing with a situation if I am not there. Still don't trust the OBT with them though until I see the temperament of this specific one and see if they can handle it haha!!

Ahhhh...I see now. :) Again, I was not trying to be a jerk or an alarmist. I just know how much "fun" mine can be, and I just got this image of this wonderful family used to Brachypelmas and Grammostola unleashing this little ball of orange fury. My wife and kids have watched me do dozens of transfers, but I still wouldn't have any of them attempt to rehouse one of my OWs (I'd feel terrible if something were to happen).

Again, congrats!

No I completely understand what you mean and I didn't take it in any bad way!! Those OW's are pretty crazy as it is, then you say OBT and its like adding a little more gasoline on the fire haha!! The only one I trust to deal with my OW's is my dad. The rest of them like the cute calm fluffy ones they know won't come after them lol!!

Thanks!! I am naming her Phoebe because Phoebe used to be a goddess. She was the moon goddess who wore a gold crown. I thought it was fitting. And the name is cute and sassy like her haha
