Much as I hate to admit it, I went to one of the forbidden places for something my Mom and Pop didn't have. They had a juvie B. auratum marked down to a price I wasn't willing to turn down. I didn't really pay attention to the enclosure conditions because there was no way I was walking away...
If it molted three days ago it's fangs won't be hard enough to eat even if it wanted to.
I give them a week or two after molting before I offer them any food. Slings harden up quicker than bigger spiders. I wouldn't leave food in with them because they are particularly vulnerable post-molt...
I'll be keeping an eye out for the N. cerradensis. Another floof tarantula! I just found out they moved N. chromatus to Vitalius chromatus. That is funny because I didn't want one because they weren't floofy. I'd be at expos practically tripping over them looking for a N. colloratavillosus.
The...
Sorry for the late response. Not sure how I missed this.
My N. coloratovillosus has to be around a 5 inch DLS. Funny because my N. tripepii is about the same size and they backfill their hide no matter how many times I clear it out.
I could have sworn you'd mentioned having a N. tripepii. How...
Do you have a Mom & Pops store you can buy reasonable amounts of crickets from? I try to get just what I need as I need it.
I get the best results out of crickets.
Mealworms are ok but best suited to slings. T's outgrow them pretty fast. On the upswing, you can keep them in the fridge or a...
Ooh! Ooh! I have one of those! Wanna see?
Here is photographic proof that something lives in the hole that things go in and don't come back out of.
To play fair, I know she comes out because she fills her water dish with substrate whenever it gets changed.
Tliltocatl vagans today. Must be something in the air again because my Grammostola rosea molted but ran down it's burrow the second I got the camera out. My Aphonopelma sp. Encino also molted and wouldn't come out of their hole either. You can kinda see them in the pic.
I give mine their food before I go messing with their water dishes. It helps, but it isn't a cure all. I think it is better to have an idea as to what to expect out of your spiders and adjust what you are doing accordingly.
My Nhandus are still twitchy even with food and two of my Grammastolas...
Gave her a cricket last night that proceeded to run behind the backing in her enclosure. I figured it would camp in there and die so I gave her another one. She got both of them. I now have one very fat Latrodectus.
On a related note, a lot of mine seem to have a poo/bolus corner. I'll go after that with a plastic spoon every once in a while. I don't reuse the substrate if I rehouse or one dies. That gets dumped. I've never changed it though.
