    Oh, dear journalists.

You should see the unmitigated garbage about tarantulas I get in my feed! Things like top 10 lists that have a tarantula listed by its common name as one spider then it's by scientific name as a second spider later in the list. My personal favorite: "What to do if you find a tarantula in your...

That was meant to be G. rosea. Curse you auto correct!

    Identification

Last week I bought a mystery sling at an Expo. I'm 95% sure it is a G. roses based on the name and the price. I always tell folks I don't use scientific names to be pedantic. It is to avoid confusion. I have 5 different spiders I could call some variation of Mexican flame leg/knee. There are a...

    Update: Endoscope Inspection Camera

Neat on paper but consider that it is very similar to how people lure them out of holes.

    Rare Sight

I just get a black screen and a weather report as well.

    roaches establishing in your house

I had escapes from my (now defunct) red runner colony. I haven't had any show up in the glue traps in over a year, so no, they didn't set up shop here. I'll never do a red runner colony again. They were a pain to deal with for me. My dubia colony had a couple small ones sneak out as well. Oddly...

Which tarantula does Harry Belafonte sing about

The Banana Boat song is the reason I ended up with a Grammostola pulchra. That was the only black tarantula from South America that I could come up with at the time. I've learned different since then, but here is what I figured out. As an aside, she is one of the few tarantulas who has a name...

    Cost of Tarantulas

It might be worth factoring in who's actively breeding what and/or how much it is to get them through customs. I've been to expos where vendors were practically giving away a few species. That said, I can't imagine it would be cheap or easy to get them safely and legally across a border.

    My tarantula species.

Here is a picture of my Grammostola actaeon with and without flash. Grammostola iheringi also look similar.

    Feeding issues

I wouldn't worry about it. I've had several tarantulas bury themselves for months without food. Eventually, they come out and eat when they feel like it. On more than one occasion I've said, "I can't eat it for you," out loud while feeding. They pounce on it, then just sit there. As the...

    What's your favorite holiday movie?

Just checked out A Warning to the Curious. They are streaming a few episodes of A Ghost Story for Christmas on Shudder. Some of the pine forest scenes looked similar to the pine forests we have here in New York. Not a bad ghost story. It didn't end the way I thought it was going to. I was...

Finally showing off, Xenesthis sp. Intermedia

I have a N. tripepii and a N. coloratovillosus. They are definitely twitchy, but they go straight to their hides if you disturb them.

Finally showing off, Xenesthis sp. Intermedia

My X. immanis has never kicked hairs. Neither of my Nhandus are kickers as well. My C. cyanopubescens on the other hand kicked up a storm when I rehoused them. No bald spot, but I thought there was going to be!

    What's your favorite holiday movie?

Terrifier 3 recently knocked A Christmas Horror Story out of the top slot. Terrifier 2 was disappointing, but 3 made up for it 10 times over. Plus, Terrifier was going to be incredibly difficult to top as it is. They came back with a Christmas movie and holy crap did it work! A Christmas Horror...

    Cricket size

I've got a few Aphonopelmas that size and I've never had a problem with large crickets. I always assumed bites from crickets were more a danger when the tarantula was freshly molted. If you look at the way tarantulas eat, I think the chances of getting bitten by a cricket once they take them is...

    Feeding new sling

If you've got other spiders to feed, cricket drumsticks are an option as well. It seems a bit macabre, but they pretty much drop their back legs on their own if you grab them there with tongs.

    Pre molt question

I've had a quite a few block themselves in their hides to molt. They'll come out a month or two later to discard their old molt. I don't think my T. albo has ever molted above ground.
