So words us T keepers use all day but I didn’t know what does Brachy means? Or pelma?? so by chance I found these articles which noobs like me might also find interesting.
I LOVE finding out what Latin names mean, whether it’s plants or animals, also helps me remember them if I know the reason why they were named.
And when you have something like Grammostola actaeon named after the Greek hunter I just love finding out about the Greek gods and myths too.
I hope some might find these useful, most of you probably know the Latin meanings or these articles very well so apologies.
Part II is about the Latin meanings, part I is pronunciation, still tricky to get right but it helps.

Fun fact: Tyrannosaurus Rex is actually the Latin name of the dinosaur. It means “Tyrant Lizard King.” So Tyrannosaurus is the genus and Rex is the species. Another example would be Acrocanthosaurus atokensis. Yeah I’m a nerd. When I was little I wanted to be a paleontologist but now I’m not sure what I want to be. Entomology probably I really don’t know yet.

@Kaden Alexander thanks, yes, that’s a great one isn’t it, I loveee dinosaurs, and palaeontology too, I was crazy about collecting fossils as a kid, and I now have a collection of mainly Coleoptera, with some giant species, and a few Orthoptera, I love their names too, I love Callipogon barbatus..which I believe means beautiful beard beard! They were obviously in a hurry when they named that one! :D
Thanks, I just love the names. And I envy you if you take the entomology route, very best of luck as it would be just incredible!
