Does anyone here have any wanted adverts on sites such as Gumtree?
Looking around I have seen a few adverts saying good homes offered to unwanted Tarantulas, exotic etc And just wondered if it was worth the time putting one any where.
I can do it with a free account & thought it might get me a freebie T, possibly, but wondered if it was worth it.

Unfortunatly a lot of the sort of ads you mention on Gumtree are people looking to get Ts,reptiles Etc for free so they can sell them on there are many people which seem inclined to do that sort of thing:rolleyes:
not saying everybody but personally I would rather stick to purchasing which ever T you are looking for rather than advertising as I'm sure many genuine T owners wouldn't just give there Ts away to just anyone anyway?:)

I wouldn't advertise but check regularly as you often see them free to good home on both Gumtree and Preloved

the issue with gumtree I have found is that they don't let you list. They insist on a separate ad. I gave up with them.

I have 3 ads on Preloved (2 for sale lists and a MM wanted list)

yes @Phil its good if people want to buy from other via gumtree and preloved:D
I was referring to people that put up 'WANTED Free Tarantulas' etc as you get lots of people asking for free Ts and Snakes and selling them on to make a profit letting people who think they are going to a good home and they have no intention of keeping the animal in question:)

I found two nice juvenile T's locally via Pets4homes. It is also how I found my Dachshund & my Bassett Hound.
I had just seen several wanted ads saying good home offered to unwanted T's & I wondered if it was worth the effort of placing an ad myself. And I guess if some people are get T's etc & then selling them on, then it must produce some T's for some people. I am not wanting to sell on, I just wondered if it might produce a or some T's.

Up to you. you may get lucky and get some freebies. I have had a few that way but only people reaching out to me asking if I can take some in. I have also bought many more out of a mercy/rescue mission when I have seen some for sale and been shocked by how they have been kept. chances are any unwanted Ts will likely be dehydrated and in poor conditions but that's when the joy of knowing you have rescued a spider and it will get a better life comes in to play. Go for it. Can't do any harm, just don't expect hundreds of mails or calls as I think most people will want to get something back on their investment. most ha e likely bought from pet shops and paid over the odds for the spider, an over priced enclosure (like exo terra), spider life substrate (also a waste of money), heat mats and thermostats etc etc. But don't let me out you off....LOL :D

@m0lsx It won't hurt to try and maybe, just maybe, someone will give a T to you, because your advert was the first one they saw, which stopped them giving it away to one of those dodgy advertiser's!

Plus, there must be people who get in the position of not wanting to keep their T. A new partner who is arachnophobic, a landlord not allowing them etc etc. At least some of those people will be wanting to give free to a good home.
You've nothing to lose so why not!

That is not exactly how I came by my MM Phormictopus cancerides, as at the time I did not recognise the mistakes. But it is what it has turned out to be. He was in an arboreal enclosure, where he climbed the glass & then fell a lot. He had no real floor space & his enclosure was full of live crickets. He is now in an enclosure with a larger floor area & feels much more relaxed & content.

I not only changed the enclosure, I watched the old boy & have modified the enclosure to make it suit him better too.

There is so much to learn by watching our T's.
