Hi folks, just thought I'd ask if anyone knows any good channels, on youtube or elsewhere, to watch keepers videos? I'm of the opinion that they're excellent teaching tools for beginners to the hobby, and I still find them entertaining to watch.
I asked first so I'll start:
Starting the list, for people new to the hobby I recommend Jon3800 (All of my suggestions are youtube keepers). Another forum member, I think it was Chubbs, recently stated that he didn't care for the way Jon kept Poecis, mostly in one gallon plastic jugs. I have to agree with him on that, and I have a few other issues with his care, such as feeding once a month, across the board, with no individual attention, and the fact that he doesn't ventilate properly, in my opinion. But he has a lot of tarantulas, and a lot of knowledge to share. He also doesn't do many everyday care videos, such as transfers of fast or defensive/skittish spiders to new enclosures, but he has a lot to offer.
There's also Tarantulaguy1976 who stopped making videos sometime back, but he has many videos with great information, about all kinds of things, still up and running, I believe. I have some opinions about this guy too, but I'll keep them to myself for now.
Tarantulaaddict, from the UK, has lots of feeding videos and some informational ones.
The Spiderman, Alan Hicken, not as well known as these others but I always liked his videos.
Sturmy76, I think he's German, not sure though, but he's a smart guy and his Avic care video is straight to the point and perfect, in my opinion. He has many other videos besides the Avic ones.
Frankus Lee has some good videos, and a few informational ones I found interesting.
DaylitorKnight, or Day and Knight exotics, he does a lot of commentary, I like this guy, and his bloopers are funny as hell.
One of my recent finds, Greg Rice..he mostly does feeding and time lapse molting videos, which are excellent, and he also has a video series on an A chalcodes that was stung by a pepsis wasp. This tarantula was paralyzed, and he gave it drops of water with an eyedropper for a long time...well, watch the videos, it's an awesome story.
Marylynn Moore, she's cool too, she does mostly feeding videos, but she has a few rehousing vids up as well. She talks to her spiders, which tickles me.
I know I've left some out, but it's a good start. There's no advertising for youtube channels like this, so if anyone knows some good ones, please share, I'm always looking to learn something new, or just be entertained by other keepers and check out their collections. As I said, I think these channels are important as a teaching tool for newer keepers in the hobby, but they're also good for more advanced keepers looking to find information on newer species in the hobby, or species they haven't dealt with or read about yet. Hopefully someone contributes
