I think I have an idea what species it is but can you also take a picture from top so I can fully see the patterns? also take the picture in a bright room if possible :)

I've just been looking at new mexican tarantula which she looks like but I'm not sure as I was given her so don't have much history. Nevertheless I think she's gorgeous.

Hi thank you for the pictures that looks like lasiodora parahybana actually :) lp are still great species though because if you got a female they get really big, they are the fourth biggest tarantula after theraphosa stirmi, blondi and apophysis so they are great in size! :D

That's awesome thanks so much for the information. I thought she seemed rather large for a red rump. I'm pretty sure she's a female by looking at her. What made you think she was that ?

Yeah I was able to know because I have lasiodora parahybana :) it is a great spider but make sure you keep the substrate where water dish is moist so the spider has more humidity, lp they love some humidity

Sorry to be asking a lot of questions but how much should I be feeding her if she is an Lp as I've been treating her as a red rump. Do I need to change anything else? Pretty new to all this so any suggestions are greatly appreciated. That make so much sense she was hovering by the water dish yesterday so I moistened the substrate in that corner.

No there is nothing to be sorry its actually important to ask questions if you are newcomer to tarantula keeping :) this is not just exclusive to lp but every tarantula is you need very good ventilation system in enclosure so when you add water and keep the enclosure humid it doesnt create mold or fungus. It actually is very simple to keep an lp happy you just need a water dish if its large enough to not drown in it, you need a hide so if tarantula is approaching a molt or when stressed he or she can use the hide. You can add moss too if you want to increase the humidity level its useful to add moss actually if you are using a cage like critter keeper because they have way more ventilation holes than tarantulas actually need but if you are going to store that sell plastic containers since they wont already come with ventilation holes you are gonna have to make the holes yourself so you would need a drill bit thats small enough so tarantula can not escape or use soldering iron but with soldering iron just be careful to not make the hole bigger than you need so spider cant escape, if you by accidently make the hole bigger than it is you cant really use that anymore safely for the spider unless you stick a fake plant from there to block the hole with gluing from outside

Hi Sullivan.
Bit worried about her recently. Thought she was about to moult as she hasn't eaten for nearly a week and was drinking and making web mat. She's still moving around quite a lot in the evening. Is this normal?

Hi Eddie if she hasnt eaten for only a week thats completely normal there are people that only feed their tarantula once a month so you are okay :) you said she was drinking so thats great sign she is staying hydrated and can you please take very clear picture from top after removing the lid completely? I need a very clear picture of her to tell if she is in premolt or she is just not interested in food. If she has bald patch that would help with finding out if she is in premolt easier because that skin color turns dark when its in heavy premolt, there is 1 thing you need to watch out for when she is in heavy premolt, keep the water dish full at all times and if its bone dry keep the substrate near water dish moist so it creates some humidity for her since tarantulas do need humidity while they are molting

I also would like to add that it is beneficial to keep sphagnum moss in lp cage, they do not need as much humidity as theraphosa stirmi, blondi or apophysis but lasiodora parahybana still needs some humidity and moisture so keeping some part of enclosure moist would help her maybe like 1/4 of enclosure only

She has got a bit of a bald patch but can't really see in the picture sorry. This was the best I could get without taking the lid off cos don't really want to stress her too much.

She doesnt look like she is in premolt so its probably that she is just not hungry enough to accept another food :) try again next week and if she doesnt eat still then keep trying every week while keeping an eye on her abdomen to see if she is approaching a molt

She is very cute :D is she kicking hairs alot?
She did when I first put her in her new enclosure but now just threatens to kick but doesn't. She has postured a few times when I've gone to change her water or feeding but I think she's just trying to find out if I'm not nice or not. I'm really happy that I've got her and am thinking about more. Just learning about her and making sure she's ok gives me something to get up for as I've been having a pretty crap time recently. Thanks for all the info you've been giving me I really appreciate it. Here's another few pics of the grumpy girl.
