I think it's great that more people from your country are keeping tarantulas. Another new member, Umbra, is asking questions about tarantulas and SA too. I know there's been a few more members from SA I just can't recall their names, I haven't been as active here recently. The fact that you have to have a license to keep your own local species baffles me..that's just..crazy. Don't governments realize that keepers can actually save a species from extinction ? We breed them, we don't eat them..

Unless the rules have changed recently, then I don't think you can legally import tarantulas into SA or export local species out.

Yea its very vague subject....but my question is if it is illegal to import them...How did they get here and why dont you require a license to keep non local species...im sure there should be some licensing that needs to be in place if you want to import them

They got there via unmarked brown boxes through the postal system which is the same way that SA species got out (and how a lot of other species get introduced into the hobby). You don't need a licence to keep non native species simply because no one thought to create any laws since it is illegal to import them into SA in the first place.
