Hi Guys,

here i am (again) with another question. Yesterday i noticed a bunch of white spots in my substrate. I am not quite sure if these are springtail eggs or maybe mold, and of it is mold should i be worried? I also noticed that the left side of the enclosure (especially the bottom) stays humid.
The substrate is a mix of moss and Coco Fiber. Here are some photo’s of the substrate

I think it's mold.
As far as I'm aware, mold isn't harmful to T's (someone please correct me if I'm wrong)
Mold just looks nasty to us.

I thought it was mold aswell.
i wasn’t sure if this is harmful to my T, i read it could potentially be fatal to the T. So i was wondering if i should remove the substrate en clean the enclosure or if it is nothing to worry about. I don’t want to put my T in unnecessary stress :)

So should i change the substrate for 100% Coco fiber?

If it's sphagnum moss, then simply let it dry out with the coco fibre. A couple of my Brachy's have some moss in the coco fibre & dry sphagnum moss, makes the surface look arid & natural.

Thanks! Then i will wait for the moss to dry out and hope the mold won’t spread any further :)

Personally, I find coco foir by itself will mold. I mix coco and peat moss 1:1 with great results. You can add sand or vermiculite as necessary for some species (extensive burrowers or moisture dependent) but just those coco and peat is in 90% of my enclosures with great success for all on it.

The pet shop, where i bought all the stuff i needed for my T, gave me tropical forest moss. I mixed that with Coco fibre 1:2. That is probably the reason why some area’s in the enclosure stay humid for longer periods of time. Do you recommend changing the substrate or leave it the way it currently is?

If you leave it the way it is it will dry out. For desert species like Brachypelma, overflow the water dish once every 2 weeks in one corner of the enclosure. That's all the moisture they need. They get 90% of their water from their prey.

I’ve had it for nearly 6 Months this way and sprayed the enclosure maybe 2-3 times, never overflowed the water dish but the bottom layer stays humid. That is exactly the place where the mold is, maybe I’m doing something wrong?........
