DKS is a symptom where a T is unable to control its movements, usually the first sign is twitching of the legs. One of the most common causes seems to be exposure to chemicals. Ts can recover from it but they often die.
DKS was thought to be an syndrome hence the name. But it is actually a symptom not the cause. The name should be redone in my opinion. As @Enn49 mentioned it is usually chemical exposure.
Parasitic mites come from wild caught tarantulas mostly. Buy your tarantulas from captive bred breeders and you wont have to worry about them.
All other mites are beneficial in small numbers. Just let your enclosure dry out to kill them off. No matter what you do they will be back...I dont even bother with them.
As for DKS I've had a tarantula molt out of it and live out its life. Ive had some die too. All of them I purchased from a pet shop that probably was using glass cleaners but wouldnt admit to it. Of course I purchased them next to nothing to try and help them.
