If it's his spider then he knows it better than us. In general you wouldn't assume you could handle a pokie but it's not unheard of for them to be docile in the same way a "perfect beginner species" can sometimes be defensive

I agree, my P. met. is probably the calmest T I have and I have handled her, only once in an emergency but she didn't attack and I only realised how silly I was afterwards but I had to save her from a cat when her container got broken.

Same with my metallica. Although the risk of a bad mood is high with poecis in general, imo. I have had defensive strikes from the same metallica when doing maintenance and feeding. I wouldn't ever handle one on purpose, unless like you said, it was an emergency.
