Question Regarding Future Number of Tarantulas in Collection

I imagine it’s a question of time, space and motivation.

that would be one hell of a commitment and it would take up a lot of your time, I play poker and to find enough time for that I’d like a minimum of 15 hours a week. I’ve just gone on a break from it because I can’t find 5 at the moment.

An appropriate space, at that size I’d assume you’d want to mostly use your own feeder colonies and have more enclosures than T’s.

But if you had the time, room and motivation to do what needs doing (I imagine there’s be daily chores with that amount) then I can’t see why not.

i think at that point it would become a bit of a part time job rather than a hobby though. Which could work for you.

It depends on the space available for all those Ts. It also depends on what T’s they are. If you are going to keep a lot of adult Ts, then it would take up a lot of space because their enclosures must be big. If you have lots of slings, then it won’t take up that much space because the enclosure is small.

Would it be realistic to own a maximum of between 90-100 tarantulas in the future?
Me personally, I wouldn’t want that many. At that point it would be more like a job. It would take hours weekly to maintain. I have respect for people that can run a basically a pet shop in their home. Time is why I wouldn’t want that many basically. Space required for that many Tarantulas is probably a room dedicated to them.

Yes it is if you have time and dedication we have several hundred tarantulas and I personally enjoy feeding and care and maintaining them :)
If you don't think several hours a week of dealing with your pets could be something you could maintain for years ahead of you start small and see how you get on and just keep a few -
But a large collection isn't ideal for everyone :)

Would 62 be a better option?
I was slightly joking, I think some great advice was given. It really depends on you, your space availability, financial resources, and time/labor. Think about each species you want to acquire and what their max size would be and what it would take to house them, and figure out if you have enough space to house all of the enclosures you would need. Also consider how you would want them to be displayed. Having them all stuffed in Tupperware containers doesn't offer the best view ability but it is usually most cost-effective, so you may end up with a mix of enclosure types etc. There's probably a lot more to consider, so proper planning and research needs to be done. It really depends on you and what your situation is.

I don’t think arbitrary numbers are the way to go.

maybe use a spread sheet or just a pen and paper to write down your time commitments to figure out the spare time you’d have to put into it, how much space you have to devote to the how many that would enable you to keep as well as a budget.

I presume the OP already has a collection - so you just keep building on that a few at a time until you feel like you are busy enough. Space wise you will need more as your spiders grow on, but time wise you may need less as adults don't need as much time dedicated to them as slings do - I suppose it depends if you want to grow your collection with adults or slings.

I have currently just about 100 hundred and it stretches the limit of what is still good as a hobby. I love and care for everyone of them with my sidekick but frankly it is an insane amount of work/time and quite a financial commitment. Except for a few more on my list (I know it is a disease :p ) I will work slowly on reducing the number by trading or giving the slings and juices I have that will turn males (if I do not have a female to pair with).
Break a leg.
