So, my H. Pulchripes has darkened a little bit, but it's more active than when I first got it. What's the deal? Could It just be the lighting?

Do you have a light over the enclosure? They don’t need lighting, mine are alot more active and always out now that I moved them to the closet. They only get a dim light from the bathroom window.

Natural light from the window. There's a lamp on my bed stand. That's about it.

My tarantulas are the most active during the day. My lights in my tarantula room come on from 7am to 7pm. They eat during the day not night and they know this. They have adapted to hunt in the day time hours. At night my lights change to red...i can hardly see anyone at night except my stirmis. My lights are all L.E.D. and create zero heat. Also the room is a constant temperature and only varies a couple degrees.

What kind of LED lights do you use? I have been thinking of getting some red ones, like the strip lights or just build my own. But programmable lighting would be awesome. I don't use lights other than what they get from a window or if we are in the bathroom.

It could also mean that it molted shortly before you got it. They darken as they harden up after a molt, and they are less active immediately following a molt.

Ive noticed premolt sometimes makes spiders act differently than what is normal for them.

I agree, my H. Barivana would sit legs spread stiff as a board for days at a time. I thought it was gonna die but then it molted. Then some species I noticed the legs get really skinny looking right before a molt.

The red lights I use are rope lights sold almost everywhere at Christmas. I just attached them around the border of the ceiling.
The white lights are just cheap under the counter led light. Bought them at Walmart for like $10 each. Hooked everything up with a timer.
I need to do a time lapse video showing all the pokies coming out when the lights come on at 7am...its awesome to see.
