Hello everyone, from Vancouver, BC, Canada! I have been fascinated by tarantulas for several years and finally acquired my first one from an enthusiast who was looking to regime a juvenile male Davus sp oaxaca. I researched enclosures and care tips, and am now enjoying "Tiggy" and his adventures. He's a little skittish, and the second night with me he tried to escape through a small hole in the top of the enclosure: he got his head, carapace and legs through it (it seemed like such a small hole!) but thankfully his abdomen was too large and he was stuck. I discovered him waving his legs at me so I was able to carefully free him into my cupped hand and guide him back down onto the substrate of the enclosure. The hole has since been sealed, and he has now built himself a kind of fort, digging into the coir and pulling bits of peat over the opening to this cubbyhole. He's been hiding out there for a few days, so methinks he will be moulting soon. Here's a somewhat poor picture of him taken at night with a flashlight to illuminate. I am looking forward to reading a variety topics and comments and learning a lot more about tarantulas!
