Hi everyone! I recently received a little bundle of joy for Christmas (a young female pink toe, named Lemon :] ) and because I want her to be happy and healthy, I have a few questions for you veterans. A little background: shes got a 10gal terrarium with some cork bark and fake vines to hide in, and a heating pad on the more open side of the tank.

Anyway, so a few concerns I have: My house is very cold in the winter and dry, I've been misting her tank with a spray bottle but she has been hanging out on the side of the tank opposite the heating pad (perhaps because there is a more "safe" corner with the vines and bark for her to hide in), so I'm wondering if I should move the heating pad? Also I retrieved her from the pet store last Saturday and put two crickets in her tank; she has eaten neither and given the temperature of my house I'm worried about her.

Of course I JUST got her and have never had a tarantula of my own, any advice I can get would be mega-appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Can give you the advise I was given when I first started out in the "extreme pet" scene. Do proper research. Do an internet search for a pink toe caresheet. This wil give you temperatures, climate, humidity etc. Once you have that information, apply them in your vivarium. If your T don't want to eat, give it a gap, she might be molting. So relax a bit on that one. Just keep your vivarium clean (removing dead crickets) keep clean water in the bowl, and she should be fine. Hope this advice helps a bit, I'm no T expert, but this advise helped me before.

Anyone know of a site where we can download a pdf of caresheets for all the T's? I read that there are over 800 species, so it will be a BIG file but worth every page.

Most household temps are fine. I have heat mats on some tanks. Thier unplugged because they do nothing... Waste of money. My room gets cold too, now in the winter it's close to 60 sometimes as the lowest. Which isn't a huge concern but they will grow, digest, and so on slower. I do use low watt bulbs above enclosures to raise temps. Most are 50 watt exo terra infrared bulbs. I have them on adjustable dimmers. My pinktoe stays around 75 to 78 Fahrenheit during the day. No need to feed for one to two weeks after getting your tarantula. Probably stressed and not used to its environment.
