My son called me at work today to tell me his rose haired is dead, or at least he thinks. She is supposedly female and hasn't molted in about 2 years. I have no idea if this spider is dead or not. He's so upset. She doesn't move when touched. Please help!

Does she have a water dish? The legs will curl directly under when a t is dead like fully curled it's a universal sign of death in tarantulas of all species. She doesn't look dead but idk maybe she is just an old lady . Look up a picture of tarantula death curl .

Sadly it's probably gone or at the very least dehydrated. Though death curl is an obvious sign of death or fairly close to it, tarantulas won't always abide by the rules and curl up. It could very well be an older specimen. I don't see any sign of fall damage (way too much room for an accident to occur). I do not see a water dish.

Sorry guys! I've been meaning to get back and update you! Yes there was a water dish in the rock formation in there. We ended up putting her in icu that night but sadly it appears she passed or was already dead. I found out that my husband did indeed say she was wild caught, so no idea how old she truly was. My son is devastated. She was his first spider. And he would like another. Any suggestions for friendly "new world" as my son puts it?

Sorry you lost it :(
You could always get another G. rosea but make sure it's a young CB one, that goes for any T it's just not worth getting a WC..

G pulchra or any brachy is also a good choice. A chalcodes is also pretty reasonable and captive bred ones are abundant. There is always B vagens which is underrated but the personality isn't quite the same as a rose hair, awesome T however.

G. Pulchra (Brazilian black) spiderlings are around 80$ nowadays . Mexican redknee spiderlings are in the 40$ range. G. rosea ( rosehair)cb spiderlings are probably less I'm not sure. You can look either in one of these forums classifieds for them most the time cheaper. I'll name a few good websites not all . Swiftsinverts, netbug, jamiestarantulas, rear not tarantulas, and palp friction I think is the name. That's just the ones off the top of my head .

I'm gonna add that some websites only allow overnight shipping usually 40$ and some offer 2 day which is cheaper but variable. I say 80 $ is alot 40$ or under for someone who's never raised a spiderling is good.
