Hey guys! I have a Pink Toe. I'm not sure how old she is yet I got her in May of this year. Had a successful molt end of July/early August. I live in KY and currently the weather is mild. Prior to this mild weather, we did have some cold stretches. I'm not sure if my spider is adjusting to cooler weather, yet she hasn't eaten in almost 3 weeks. Her back side is not balding as a pre molt would show yet her under belly shows areas of what looks to be stretching? I am considering getting her a hermit crab heater as she stays up top in her terrarium and I would be afraid a heat lamp may be too hot...Is it possible she can be pre molt without the balding?

Many tarantulas will stop eating in the colder months, so that could be what it I'd guess right now, although the stretching has me curious. Most, if not all tarantulas will be fine in room temperature or whole home heating. If you want to get supplemental heating, a space heater is best (oil filled space heaters are recommended by many). Heat lamps, like heat mats can potentially cook a tarantula.

This is a tropical spider so adjusting to the winter months doesnt apply to this species. However this species does fine into the mid 60s. Heat the room if you cant maintain at least 65 in your house. Lamps will dehydrate your spider...your spider needs all it fluids to molt now. Pinktoe's rarely get a bald abdomen before molting...alot of arboreals dont. As for hanging up top of the enclosure...this is where it will molt when its ready.

Thank you! This one did bald on her last molt. Maybe she won't this time. And yes she did molt in her web at the top last time. Will keep posted on what happens in the days to come. I do hope she is and will be okay..If she is even a she..LOL
