My first accident

After a few mishaps and one decent tumble off the dresser it was on (a short wide one), my H.gabonensis was nowhere to be seen.

After dinner, I went to make sure it was okay, and to do so I had to unbury it, and it was mad. I had a catch vial ready, but even with the preparedness for quickness, I accidentally took two of its back legs, same side. It's angry, and moving about so otherwise unharmed. I gave it fresh water and it went to go bathe. I feel bad and I should have just let it be, but I was so worried that fall had seriously injured it.

My first mishap in 10 ts.

Did you take its legs off by slamming the catch cup down? This is like the 3rd post of this style in a week ive seen between fb groups and forums. My best advice, no matter the species, is let it run and stop before you place the cup down. Never try to catch a spider on the move

I agree with swimbait, they don't usually run far, just a short fast burst and then stop and that's the time to cup it. At least next moult or 2 those legs will be back.

Yea, exactly. I've noticed quickly, luckily, that they run for short bursts, then stop, then run, etc. gotta wait for it to stop before dropping the cup.

I didn't slam the cup down, I think it was somewhat of the location of where it stopped. It stopped on the carpet right up against a speaker so it didn't leave much room to place cup, but I could have been more gentle with catch cup placement as well.

Oh, I know they will be back, its just as active and doesn't seem to know anything is off, I just feel bad :/.

Don't be to hard on yourself. They're tough critters and will bounce back like @Enn49 said. I'm excited to see my A. geniculata molt again to repair his lost leg from the last molt. Never seen one do this before and i'm quite interested and impatient. I wish he'd molt again already lol.

I'm trying not to be but I still feel bad, though I know it will recover. I think I feel so bad cause its only a 1/2" sling.

Then I felt sadistic giving it a cricket drumstick...though last I saw it was nomming on it hah. Maybe its mad at it for existing.
