I had to go out for a couple of hours today so my son took the opportunity to play a bit of Machine Head album Hellalive quite loudly. To my surprise, when I got home, many Ts that normally stay hidden away were out and some almost dancing to the music.

The list of those out is:-
Brachypelma albopilosum – Coco, Jalen
Brachypelma smithi –Popo
Cyriopagopus sp. Midnight Blue – Midnight
Davus pentaloris– Beck
Hapalopus sp Colombia klein - Vita
Heteroscodra maculata - Kofi
Lasiodora parahybana – Mole
Nhandu chromatus - Luzia and Zingu
Poecilotheria metallica - Trip
Psalmopoeus irminia – Falcon
Psalmopoeus reduncus - Coffee
Pterinochilus murinus Usambra– Zera
Tapinauchenius gigas - Cayenne
Tapinauchenius violaceus– Kutari

So if anyone is looking for Ts that enjoy music these are the ones to chose :).

I thought t.s hated noise? I stay with my dad right now and I don't have a room so me and my little a. Versicolor sling are out in the front room, I keep my t. In a dark cabinet to try to shield some noise, because the tv is blaring loud all day. My apartment is just generally really noisy and I hate putting my t. Through that. But it seems the only time he's bothered by a noise is just a sudden bang I'll see him flinch. But I google in all different ways if tarantulas are bothered by noise and I haven't been able to find a solid answer.

@cameron137 I always thought the same but it's become a regular thing for my Pterinochilus murinus Usambara to appear when my son plays his music quite loudly or if the vacuum is on yet I rarely see her at other times. My Cyriopagopus sp. Midnight Blue and the Heteroscodra maculata both vanish at the slightest movement but today they both stayed out. The Psalmopoeus reduncus was positively tapping her feet, almost dancing in time to the beat.

never noticed that and i have music loud quite often. I wonder if the sound vibrations from the music are making them curious or maybe they're thinking the world is ending and coming out to see it ;)

Considering they can't hear then the most likely explanation is that the low frequency sounds are resonating making objects in their enclosures vibrate slightly, fooling the T into thinking that there is potential prey in there.

I listen to all kinds of music and I've noticed some different "reactions" to different stimuli. Dub reggae with it's heavy low end and house rocking vibrations usually leads to hidden spiders. It's the same with a lot of hip hop. Now a recording more on the treble side seems to go entirely unnoticed. I have an original pressing of the Stooges Raw Power produced by David Bowie (hopefully a couple record geeks know what I'm talking about) that sounds like the recording is coming out of a tin can and going through a cheese grater. The bass and drums are mostly buried in the mix so the spiders hardly even react when something like that is on. I've always surmised it's because there's nothing causing vibrations to their enclosures.

It certainly seems to be the heavier beat that gets them going so I guess it is the vibrations that do iit.

...I have music going always..usually loudly..I don't watch television but we have an extremely nice surround system. I play music nearly constantly. My T's are immune. I honestly don't care who says what, watching mine I'm firmly convinced they get used to certain things. Like the T's that burrow by the highway. They have to get accustomed to the vibrations there.i
I seriously doubt it's harmful to them and if they seem to enjoy it. Crank it up. :p

I am getting what you're talking about! Lucky you, it's collector! The new mix by Iggy kinda lost the magic touch Bowie had no the original: it's more heavy, louder, mightier, but a little bit too much and over the top. No more subtlety comparing to the Bowie mix. But I don't want to hijack the thread with these geeks considerations...!
