Howdy all. I have a Mexican Red Rump, and he's always had some strange behaviours compared to my Chilean Rosehair. I believe the Red Rump was wild caught, unfortunately. This makes me angry but I didn't know how to tell the difference at the time. Well anyways, I found him lying on his back last night. Exhibiting all the signs of a coming moult. The problem was, there was a cricket in there. I opened the lid to get the cricket out and did so in a few moments. But when I closed the lid, The Red Rump stated thrashing about wildly. The slight snap of the lid must've scared him. But as I understand things, the cricket absolutely had to be removed. He was lying perfectly still on his back before this. Well, today comes around and he's still lying here, on his back, with his legs in an strange looking position. He doesn't move but occasionally starts thrashing around again. It's like he is desperate to get upright, but I can't help him as I understand things. I have read that when they moult, they slowly push the skin off. No slow deliberate movements here, just periodic thrashing. He's discoloured, red goo is showing at some spots. He's never put himself on his back before, so I'm positive he's trying to moult. I just want to know what I should do for him? Did I disturb the moulting process by getting that cricket out? Is he going to die? I sure hope I didn't just kill my pet. Thanks for any help guys.
