I must be the only one that can kill a pothos plant....everything i read says that they can do with little to no sunlight and very little watering. idk. i keep one in my avic enclosure and it is pretty much dead. so any suggestions for what i might have done wrong?

they a hardy plant, i've raised a few when i was in my gardening kick a few years back. I only grew them indoors, but supposedly outside is just as 'easy'. I started with moist soil, just moist enough to hold shape, like fresh out of the bag moist. I also used a hydro globe to keep the balance of moisture and air in the soil. They need a pot with really good drainage for that balance also. Too much moist in the soil drowns them.

I read this morning that the heavy webbing of Avics can kill live plants.

I gave up on using any live plants in any of my enclosures. The animals - be it tarantula or my salamander - just destroy them eventually. Fake plastic plants are the way to go, IMO, unless you are setting up a legit vivarium with lights, misters, etc., such as for tropical frogs.

well i manages it. lol it did fine for like a month and then turned yellow. i misted it like every 3 days. i think that is too much water? also my avic never webs only when she is about to molt and only in a little tiny area and then tears it down.

My baby webs a tiny bit when she takes a cricket, the little booty dance they do, but that's it other then a few minuscule bits here and there, she eats and seems content though so it's alright with me :p
The pothos I think was just not getting watered right, maybe keep it contained in a small pot and try a meat syringe and inject a few cc's of water into the pot itself? doubtful anything but an air plant is going to get enough water just with mist ^.~

I keep live succulents in my Avic enclosures and they LOVE them- it's the only time I see them on the ground when they come down to hunt or molt they like to web over the plant and molt on it- never seen this behavior until I added them into the enclosure. I also learned the hard way that Isopods will eat the hell outta them so I use them as food for the enclosures that have the Isopods :)

There are a few reasons plant leaves, pothos or any plant, turn yellow. Most common for pothos is lack of nutrition or direct sunlight. Reasons for most other plants and pothos, is fungal infection, root rot (commonly cause by poor drainage in the pot or over watering). Also it shows misting is bad, it rinses off the natural protective coating on the leaves. So i'd go with the water injections and see hwat happens.

succulents aren't always as easy as they claim to be,
yellow can also come from over watering after being dry ^.~

I've always found success with the hydro globes. not sure they'd work in an avic enclosure though, you have to remove them like once a week or so to refill. They keep the balance of water and moisture in the soil and you don't have to worry about watering the plant. When the soil becomes dry enough it will absorb the water in the hydro globe. Does all the work for you :)

really i just threw 3 hydroglobes away. i would stick them in the soil and they never drained out just clumped up with dirt.

The ones i had had a straight shaft into the dirt, if you just pushed them in the dirt it would block the shaft. I'd use a pencil or something to start the hole then pack the dirt around the shaft a bit.

Great thread though I'm sorry it didn't turn out well for you @Entity

But you just give me good ideas, will have to wait when I'll be setting up my adult T display tank in the future. ;)

Im going to try again with a pothos that has a more developed root system and try watering at the roots instead of just misting. think that might have been my problem.

I don't ever water my air plants. Maybe humidity does its part as it is pretty humid in the tropics. Have you look into the moisture content in your air?
