Araneidae are some of the most gorgeous spiders on earth and is the family that this one comes from. They are the most prolific spider family on the planet and are found in both the northern and southern hemispheres. Salticidae (jumpers) are second and Nephilidae (southern hemisphere orb weavers) are third.
I think the only one we have in southern Ontario which rivals these is the Argiope aurantia. This is one that I found a couple of summers ago. You don't come across them very often.
I wish we had the huge Nephila clavipes around, but they are a Nephilidae species and are only found in the south. They have migrated up to the southern states, though.
The DLS on this girl was probably over 2". I found her in the rim of a broken down truck.

That's a looker. I get a bunch of these around my house, or similar ones. I see almost as many Latrodectus, if I'm looking. Some of the males are really gorgeous.

We have spiny orb weavers in Alabama. Maybe not that exact species, or subspecies, but I see them in the woods all the time. Most of the ones I recall are black and white.

@MassExodus im looking for some a widow. dead one, frozen so i can preserve it. and a recluse if u see any.
This is one of two male recluses I've seen in the last week around the hospital. I'll try to get a pic of a widow tonight. Next rotation ill get both for you, hopefully. The widows dont relocate unless they have to. The recluse could be problematic...
