I think Rajah my Tapinauchenius sp Colombia might be mature but she always destroys her moult. This latest moult she is much thicker and fuzzy in her limbs than before but I don't know how to tell really. I've attached a few pictures for examples.

Any help is most definitely appreciated!

From what I can tell, they tend to be around 4-4.5" in size at maturity. I would guess she is 3-3.5" in size, but I haven't measured her. She definitely looks different from her molt before this latest one though.

@Enn49 any thoughts?

I'm sorry I can't help much as I only knew my T. gigas had matured was when he moulted and instead of being orange, he turned brown

Ah fair. There are definitely no boxing gloves but if she's a mature female she should find a boy Tap

@Tomoran any insights into tap maturity?

I would guess that at only 3" or so she's still got a molt or two to go before she's sexual mature and before I'd attempt to mate her. I'm not sure of the max size of T. sp. Colombia, but if you consider the average size of taps is about 4-4.5", she's got a little ways to go. Personally, I'd five her another molt; you want your female to not only be mature, but to be in good shape size-wise compared to the male you introduce. Unfortunately, unlike their male counterparts, females don't have that telltale feature like the emboli to help distinguish when they are mature or not.

Yeah I figuring she was most likely an inch off but if you are able to see the pictures, I know Telson was having trouble, she looks SO much different. She's more fuzzy and thicker-limbed than previously. My research was saying most Taps max out at 4.5" with gigas being the largest at 5" (that they know). When I google for images, all I am finding are my posts of Rajah or H. colombias :/. The adult female sp Union Island on Tarantula Canada's site looks similar in leg thickness but I don't know. I will definitely at least give her another moult though.

Edit: Googling adult tapinauchenius females since I can't find sp Colombia specifically I found this of a sub-adult elanae and this of a sub adult gigas and Rajah's stature is very similar to this now. She was much less fuzzy, and those 'leg warmers' on her front legs adjacent to her pedipalps was not there before.Also those brown hairs where here carapace and abdomen meet were not there in the moult prior.

I am going with she is a sub-adult which leads to a new question..is the only difference between sub-adult and adult that adults are deemed mature and ready for breeding?
