Housing per age...

Hi!! I am a brand new Smithi owner. He (or she) is around 8 months old. He came to me in his vial... and I know he will be okay in there, but I bought an acrylic tank of similar size because I would feel safer with him being in a rectangle shape versus round as far as being knocked around... I simply feel that the square shape is more solid. I have also already bought him a larger home for later on... my plan is to keep his small enclosure INSIDE the large one, so that I can still control humidity and heat, but still be in the small one. At what ages/sizes should he be moved up?

The basic "rule of thumb" when it comes to enclosure sizing is 3-4x the DLS of the spood for enclosure width & length, and 1.5-2X free climbing height. You can vary the free height inside the enclosure by packing substrate to the appropriate level to limit free climbing height.

With slings, sometimes smaller enclosures are smaller than larger for various reasons. Don't worry if you can't fit a water dish, just make sure you have a patch of moss or dampen a corner. Ts get most of their hydration from the food items they consume, but you always want to provide a source of clean water.

Happy T keeping!
