Look in all the dark places you can think of. Any place that could be a potential hiding spot. Tarantulas don't usually go very far.

They like small places, it is where they feel safest. So look in corners, crevices etc etc.

An arizona dezert tarantula

How big is it? Usually, if it's a decent size you may see it out and about at night hunting for food. If it's small, you may have to look in the tiniest darkest places you would find it in. Good luck! I was gonna say if it's an H. maculata, check your clothes! Lol

Any idea what species? Whereabouts do you live? The T would probably be hiding from your pets, but I would worry about them getting inquisitive/trying to hunt the T, as it might try to defend itself, especially if it's a more aggressive species. My best advice is to clean your home the best you can, pick up everything off the floor, don't give it any place to hide in that respect. It will probably be looking for someplace dark. Without knowing if it's an arboreal species or not, it's hard to say just where it would be likely to hide. I wish you luck in your search! I would also be freaking out

I didn't see anyone mention or clarify - if you mean he rescued it from outside and you are in the arizona desert area, it might be a mature male looking for a female. I think most tarantulas seen wandering around outside are males. If you mean he rescued it from another environment then nevermind. If you are not sure if it's a mature male, you can google some pictures and see the hooks to look for on the legs. If he's a wandering male it's up to you if you want to keep him and give him a decent life but he won't live for more than a few months (probably) and may do better out in the wild trying to find a female. Just my two cents :)
