Thanks! It is a Brazilian black, I'm pretty sure, but I'm confused because it was found outside in the desert of west texas

I can assure you it isn't a G. pulchra aka Brazilian Black. It is very likely a local Aphonopelma specie, of which males are a pain to tell apart as they are all generally black/dark brown. Your specimen is most likely a male. If kept in captivity he will not live a very long time, as at this point in his life he will just want to find a mate, do his job, and die. You will be doing what's best for him and the local tarantula population if you release him.
