I have a H. lividum I purchased about 3 weeks ago, I rehoused her from her deli cup into a 10 gallon with roughly 7inches of coco fiber substrate hoping she would burrow but all she does is cringe up in the back corner or her tank. She rarely ever moves around except when she hangs on the tank glass. I started a hole for her in the substrate. Cage, temp, humidity is all good and checked out. I was just really hoping to see her do her natural thing and burrow. There is absolutely no chance of picking up this evil thing so I'm just wondering if shes just going to be a pretty couch potatoe to just look at or if she might need more time to settle in? Thanks guys!

completely normal, sometimes they take a while to get settled in and start digging. I bought a new one recently too him a month to burrow.

Oh I love her by all means. She's just my first real "challenge" of a T. I'm still adjusting and getting comfortable with her. I was quite surprised on how aggressive and defensive the H. Lividum really is! But it was time to take the next step in my new hobby so I got a more challenging species!

They're one of the few species i will honestly call "Aggressive", because they in fact are(when you can see them of course).
Not a bad choice, for a step up T, just give her the respect she deserves, and you will be fine :). I absolutely love Haplopelmas! So sleek and shiny, and tons of attitude to go around. If your looking for another good "Step up" T, check out a P. murinus(Kenny wrote an awesome thread on them) and you'll see them more than your H. Lividum, once she gets settled in and burrows :)
You got any pics of her? Would love to see 'em.

The first picture I forgot to shut off my flash but it captures her bright blue legs. The second was when I got her home before rehoming her. You can't see from that angle but she actually sunk her fangs into that styrofoam! Shes has a serious attitude. She certainly does demand respect, and trust me, she gets it!

You gonna get one, Bast?
H.lividium is definitely on my list of future T's, but I'm going to wait till I have a couple of others under my belt. I would like my son to be a bit older, not that I think he would be irresponsible about it, just more to do with mommy paranoia lol.

I would agree to wait if you think you should. I know all H Lividums are the same, I've seen some docile ones on YouTube. But mine is not a T that is defensive if you are close to her in her cage, she will go out of her way to tell me to get the F out of here! She has sat in the opposite corner of her cage while I cleaned her water bowl and lunged, lightning fast, at me! Now that I own one, my advice is to never, ever underestimate the!

Yeah, I've read some impressive stories about their speed and defensiveness. It is also one of the reasons I love them so. I will definitely own one someday, but not right away. Kenny has got me thinking about an OBT though hehe.

OBT are awesome! imo better than lividun in every way, and I have both.
I will always have a soft spot for the cobalts! I'm thinking about negotiating on the price of that OBT the one shop has...and can't seem to sell LOL
