PROFILE SPECIES OF THE DAY!
• Grammostola porteri “Rose Hair”. This medium-sized species is very popular with advanced hobbyists. Mainly because this is a staple of pet shops, it is the no. 1 selling tarantula in the world. This is an excellent beginner’s tarantula being very hardy, long-lived, docile and they are very beautiful. They can grow to 6.25”+ leg spans. Keep warm and semi-dry with a shallow, but wide water dish. They do well in a 5 gal. to 10 gal. type of enclosure that is more taller than wide with 4”-8+” depth of semi-dry substrate. This is a species is an opportunistic burrowing species. Provide a sloping substrate with a hide/cave in the middle of the slope. The export market has been changing in Chile in the last couple of years. G. porteri is not being imported like it used to be. Demand remains high, but supply is not what it used to be, so their value is rising and prices as well. Many expect this species to be become even more restricted from being collected and exported from Chile so NOW is the time for breeders to invest in this species to produce captive-born stock.
