its only 3 inches so not full grown ,but never hides up . i wouldnt handle it as its very fast, entertaining to watch it each evening as it swings about

i put those fake vines up by the roof cos twice now he/she got her feet caught in the mesh and was left dangling from the ceiling by 1 leg. the vines give her extra feetholds

The most active and non hiding spiders I have are Phormictopus and GBB. Most of the big ones stay out, they just aren't real active. My Lps and Theraphosa stirmis just kind of lounge around. Still, they're big and impressive to look at, they get more active at night and they rarely refuse a snack.

@corij : the one on your picture isn't a vietnam blue, is it?
i bleve it is .i mean it was sold me as this and resembles ones iv seen online images - my camera hasnt really got the colours right- its also the spid in my avatar [about a year ago] . do you think its sum other breed?
what i mostly like about it is its so active and doesnt web up . one time i was so lucky it didnt escape ,it suddenly cannoned around its enclosure, like a pool ball -if id had its lid open it would have been free theres little doubt

Well, always hard to tell from a picture. But:
- Vietnam blue are Chilobrachys sp vietnam blue.
- They are either burrowing or heavy webber (yours is not).
- Their abdomen shape are more like a cigar and the hairs are shorter (like a silken body).
- And most of all, they don't have urticating hairs (on your photo, your T seems to have these, but I could be mistaken).

If it's not a Chilobrachys, it could be Haplopelma (= Cyriopagopus now), Phlogiellus or Selenocosmia: all are found in Vietnam. But not blue (except C lividum). And they share the same characteristics I've mentioned before.

But really, I could be wrong: I'm very bad at guessing spp.!

thats very interesting , i really appreciate this info. i had had my doubts about this spid early on,when it was a vivid blue colour as a sling and all the vietnam blues i saw online were brown /grey ground huggers . and the fact it has never webbed up added to the mystery . the vial it came in was labelled vietnam blue and POL CH.
thank you very much for your views on what it might be ! the shop i got it from was a general pet shop supplied by what i understood was a travelling spider salesman. the shop has since gone out of business,a lot of pet shops in my area [south east england] have gone under in the last year .im not sure why this is as the economy in general is booming

My P sazimai is always out, and always looking awesome. Also, my T stirmi are great show pieces. My P vittata and P metallica are out and stunning showpieces. Lastly, my velvety black G pulchra is a stunner. Once my H pulchripes grows it will hopefully be a showstopper also

yeh i know! cool job -- whenever i have time to spare i like to browse local pet shops. i had noticed no matter which shop all the labels on the spiders homes were same graphics and all were seemingly priced up by the supplier. one of the shop assistant happened to mention the travelling guy comes around every 3 or 4 months and takes away any unsold critters and restocks the spider cabinet with his own choice of spids .
