One tarantula having an accident isn't going to endanger all Ts. That's like saying that because one person gets run over by a bus all humankind will become extinct.
I think it works a little different with nature. I can't really come up with a similar example, as humans do not produce silk or any similar substances. If a spider got stuck in its own web, then that would be a pretty big problem for the species as a whole. I'll try to do some digging on the internet, but I recall reading that spiders can't get stuck in their own silk.

Here ya go. I'll try to find a few links.

Tara passed already. :( I checked on it this morning and it was still not moving. It was not in death curl though but its abdomen is a little askew. I am leaving it in its enclosure for a couple more days just to make sure. I went through the substrate with a lens and couldn't find anything else moving. I wondered if it is just one of those mysteries out there... :(

Thanks guys. At least our last moment was a happy one. If only I could just figure out why it was spinning then on losing its leg. Can't help feeling heavy. Yeah, this really do suck.

Any chance you could upload a pic of the situation? The enclosure and the spider? I'm just curious as to what happened here..

Yup, took a last photo but did not have a chance to upload since I'm already at work. Will do this evening when I'll get the chance.

Do you have dogs or cats? I read somewhere that preventative flea and tick medication can cause a T to act funny and eventually kill it.

i agree with blue beauty, the flea stuff on cats and dogs cant be good for the spiders. I have 3 dogs and i just got in the habit before i mess around with any of my bugs i always go wash my hands first. every time.

the abdomen does look ...off. I'm wondering if it was damaged in a fall and just freaked out like extreme pain will do to us and other animals.
