GBB sling enclosure

Morning.

A couple of weeks ago I picked up a GBB sling. She had her first moult in the film pot size container before I got her home , so I moved her into this:

it is about the size of a coffee mug, with 3 nail holes punched in lid for ventilation.

I've got to go in & clean it out today, as the coco choir is too soggy & when attempting to feed her the fruit flies, way too many fell in, including a maggot. Given the size of her abdomen, I assume she's going to moult again soon, so got to get everything out. Going to be fun, whenever you open the lid, she rushes towards the opening and assumes strike stance. I love how "spicy" she is compared to my Curly haired, but is going to be a big learning curve for me.

Is there anything I should change about this whilst cleaning?

Yes, you should. GBBs don't do well in moist enclosures. Yours does not have any cross ventilation, a must for this species. Holes should be on the top AND the sides. Substrate should be on the dry side, but a tiny water bottle cap is recommended. Sorry, I try not to force advice, but I think you will be grateful if you decide to make these changes. Oh...and congrats--great species.

I give GBB slings more, taller web anchor points, like branches, as they do like to make web hammocks above the ground.

They usually web over or fill water dishes so I just water their webbing once they do.

Yeah, never listen to pet shop people. I was told to keep her on the damp side & that she was a burrower.

Good thing they are tough critters who have been around since before the T-rex. She's got a lovely coat of tiny fuzz, vibrant colours, is quite active and has a great appetite for fruit flies/micro crickets, so I figure we're not doing too bad. But guidance is always useful.

I noticed how she adores her little fake plant. Spins the most amazing funnel like webs across it & just hangs there. Darting between the leaves if startled, prowling across them when there's food. Reminds me alot of Tasha.

Given how tiny she is, I was worried about sling dessication & difficulties moulting. However, I have spent the day with a candle, a nail & constructed this:

Still got bottle cap water bowl, small coconut shell to hide under & a larger plant to climb. I transferred her plant into it.

Turns out it's opening was exactly the same size as the lid from the pot of Morioworms I bought, so this is the top:

Better?

Oh this is her going in:
