Congrats! That's maybe twice the size or so of the 2 i just got today :)

Dry sub even at this size? i figured moist so it could burrow.

I would moisten it at this size, until they have a good amount of molt in, tarantula do not have the wax on there exoskeleton that holds in water. They will dehydrate fast.

just read the blog :) nice work. So roughly 1" or so and then let the top layer or so dry out

Thank you.
Yes. I keep the lower layer lightly moist. At 3" I move them to adult enclosures. At that point I keep then dry through winter, and most throughout spring and summer. Of, course I am trying to emulate their natural weather cycles to improve breeding success.
This species is very hardy and will do fine, as an sub/adult, with a dry enclosure and a good size dish of water; I have caught mine drinking quite often.

Wow, what have you been feeding it? I have an albo that is almost that fat, and is very heavy premolt. Hope it will molt soon as its last molt was the last week of Dec and it is pretty much a sling still at 2inches. ;)
