Anybody have any input on using flukes cricket food to gutload crickets before feeding and to keep them alive for a few weeks? good bad? just it seemd too easy.
In my experience it is overpriced for what you are buying, but I do understand the want to make sure your T is getting everything that he/she needs. This is what I do now to keep my cost low, as well as making sure the T gets the needed nutrients.
I keep Dubia roaches, but it should still directly apply. For the main colony, I feed them regular food, crushed up cat food, some fresh fruits every now and again (Maybe an orange slice a week or something of that nature). A few days before I feed my T's, I remove one or two roaches (Or however many I plan to feed off) and place them in their own separate deli cup with the Flukers gut load formula. They eat it for a day or two, then they get fed off. They only eat one of the small cubes, so even the small bottle of Flukers lasts for months!
This has been very successful to me and also gives me some piece of mind knowing that my monsters are getting what they need. Its just one extra step so I haven't really noticed it to be much of a hassle! Best of luck! I hope that was of some help!
Yes. thank u. I would really like to keep dubia but i dont know if it is worth it for me. I only have 2 T's so i dont know if they r worth the money for me or not. I like the pros of them but im thinking they would grower too large faster than my 2 little ts can eat them.
A legitimate worry. If you buy from The Roach Guy he sells small starter colonies at very affordable prices. They breed so well that you will always have small ones, but you would eventually have far too many than your T's could consume. But, if you ever expanded your collection, it would be useful. You could also sell them off to friends or fellow hobbyists. I only have two T's myself, a T. Stirmi and a G. Rosea, but I decided to go for it anyway. They are relatively cheap to start off and even cheaper to keep. And they are far less of a hassle than the crickets I used to keep. It helps that they don't smell or jump or do anything of that sort. They are actually fun to keep as well.
lol I have a colony of pet roaches because none of my T's or frogs want them... In my experience just feeding the feeder bugs vegetables that are about to go bad from my refrigerator is the cheapest and best way to keep them alive and healthy.
Crickets and roaches like the Flukers. But I agree, pricey! I switched to picking up water cubes at the reptile shows and using a dry food. About 1/5 the price.
