Finally got my new T!!!

Picked up my first T today, an A.Avic, and got him set up . I went to pick up an adult but instead I've got a Juvie haha, it's still cute though

Aww, he still needs to grow into his big feet, lol. I like juvies: They're beyond that fragile sling state, but you can still enjoy watching them grow and change. My A. versi was a nice surprise when "he" turned up bigger than I thought he'd be and he's a joy to watch (even so he's hiding at the moment - premolt).

I know he's so itty bitty! I just hope it's able to find the water bowl on the floor! How long do you recommend leaving it to climatise to it's environment before feeding?

He will find it no problem. In my opinion it depends on the spider how long you leave them, but most recommend about a week before offering food. With my Avic I waited until he made himself a web and started sitting at the top of it, as if to wait for his food. He settled in in about 4 days.

Yeah I was gonna say like 5 days. Another question how old would you say it is from the pics? The pet shop has no idea other then it's a Juvie

I'm fairly new to keeping spiders myself, so I couldn't even make an educated guess, lol. Martin Oosthuysen (one of the Mods) knows a lot about Avics, maybe he's of more help here, sorry.

Congrats man! Ull love it. Im new to the spider world. But i couldnt believe my b. smithi is a little over and inch and is almost 2 years old! But the are slow growers. not sure how fast the pink toes grow.

Thanks man! Damn you got a long way to go but with that comes 20-30 years worth of enjoyment, I'm pretty sure Pinktoes have a faster growth rate hence why the females only live 8-12 years and males live like a 1-2 years after maturing

I gotcha! Yeah 20 or 30 years if it turns out to be a female...got my fingers crossed.

Oh yeah that's true! Well even males live between 3-5 years after maturity don't they?

yeah from what ive been reading...5-12 total years.

Still plenty of years worth of enjoyment I'm more of a snake guy so I'm giving Ts a shot atm

Yeah i always had lizards. After my giant iguana died i figured id try something new. Spiders do expect a lot less from us.

Very true, they don't have need human interaction like reptiles do cause well.... They'll never change if they're mean assholes

LOL. yeah thats true. So how the temerament with the little avic? figure that out yet or letting him get used to his new place first?

He/she's as good as gold... For now lol. Got it out when I first got it home for abit and he was totally fine just went on abit of an adventure around my body

not as far as i know. she came on a 2 day ride from cali here to maryland and crawled right up on me when i opened her up. like she was finall happy to be free of the condiment cup. lol But the last time i saw her was like 2 weeks ago. she burrowed in her hide and sealed the doors. premolt i suspect.
