We fed our collection last night. This is normally a uneventful event. Maybe we find a molt, maybe some uneaten crickets that have been hiding. But normally it's uneventful beyond that.
Last night however I had tocatch & return 4 T's to thier enclosures who decided to go for a walk. One of those being one of our juvi Theraphosa blondi's. I had rehoused all 3 ealier in the week in a totally uneventful few minutes. But last night one decided to go for a walk.
Then we had the big discovery. Around 2 years ago a friend gave us a large sling in a tall, 32 oz deli cup. It is about 5.5 inches, (14cm) tall & 4.5 inches ( 12cm) wide. We have only ever seen this T once or twice in all the time we have had it & knew it was either a Lampropelma nigerrimum or a Phormingochilus SP. Akcaya & last night as we fed it started to emerge from the substrate & it's big, with a good 3.5 to 4 inch legspan. But the colour looks wrong for both species. It's certainly arborel. But beyond that, I am unsure, that it's a Phormingochilus SP. Akcaya & it's certainly not a Lampropelma nigerrimum.
I rehoused it a short while ago into a much larger arboreal enclosure, it is very chilled & easy to work with.
