Differences between spider and tarantula?

Hi, not sure if this is a stupid question but I wondered what the difference is between a spider and tarantula? I have read in many places that it is size, however I also saw that the giant huntsman spider can get just as big as the biggest tarantula, and I have noticed some dwarf tarantulas. So what defines them?

In lemon terms tarantulas stab with their fangs and regular spiders pinch with theirs. Tarantulas can also be considered as the dinosaurs of spiders as they were there first (regular spiders are considered "modern"). One important aspect as well is how long tarantulas can live compared to the rest.
