So I saw these on Tarantula Kat's YouTube channel and had seen them available in Europe. I like the design it seems cool, although one drawback is that they take up more room in that you can slide square or rectangular ones side by side. Any other thoughts? They are expensive.

I like the idea of them as a display piece on a desk for an arboreal species that stays out in the open. I’ve seen similar looking containers at Walmart for dirt cheap that would just need some holes. Nothing a drill or a soldering iron couldn’t fix.

I dunno, that sums up my thoughts too.

$60, whoof. Maybe if I was dead set on a display piece, even then I'd shop around.
Are they 8" tall or 8" diameter? Looks like both.
How does the lid stay on? Do I see magnets around the top?

I watched the commercial Tarantula Collective filmed for them. I guess if you have $$ and want a unique display case, sure, they're nice. But for the cost, I could make something more suited to my taste. Not knocking anyone who wants one, but I'll be saving my cash for other things.

Got a few brand new exo terra mini tall at a reptile expo this sunday 12x12x18 for $59 a piece, I can't imagine spending $60 on such a small and unpractical enclosure as the one listed here but it is very nice looking indeed.

Magnets I believe.

Any advantages to a cylinder, besides a somewhat easier viewing? I guess that what I was after. As I mentioned, cubes and cuboids( apparently that is what a 3d rectangle is called) offer me better use of space.

I am thinking tarantulas don't care unless a tarantula likes to poop in a corner.

They may be cheap or even free, if they're something like deli cups or cheese ball jars. Tarantula cribs, not so much. I guess their advantage is what everyone's said: they look nice.

They do look nice, and they come with drilled wholes as well as a second option for your species. They have a magnetic lock. Theyr are a few around the top so it does make it easy to access with out causing too much discomfort to the T's.
But they all are very pricey!!. This company is, by what I hear and reviews, great!!. They also have the option for smaller cubes, slings, and large acrilic enclosures all with venting and magnetic lids.
Again they are Very pricey. I agree that other then for a display piece, there are other options that can be and are better priced and look just as nice. T's def don't care one way or the other, as long as what's inside is what they need to survive.

I've gotten these canisters for my arboreal T's at Home Goods or TJ Maxx for cheap and drilled my own air holes in them. I've also found other acrylic food containers to use for my Terrestrial T's as well. I had to think out of the box to find cheaper options for my 14 T's.

I started off with cylindrical enclosures as shown in the picture below.

Not having kept T's before I thought they'd be ok, and they should be fine for the terrestrials, but I've had issues with the taller one for my versicolor. She is determined to web on the side and on the lid which means you can't open the lid without destroying part of the web. This resulted in a sleepless night when she first moulted as I'd put a cricket in for her and then realised I couldn't open the lid to get it out without risking her web ripping and her falling mid moult! So I spent the night on guard duty making sure the cricket went nowhere near her and as soon as she was clear of the old moult and had attached herself to the side of the tank I whipped the lid off and got the cricket out!

I haven't tried getting her out of the tank yet as she hides under the rim if I open the lid, so doing anything like clearing detritus fron the bottom of the tank is risky as even using tweezers my hand is within a few inches of her. Luckily she hasn't flicked hairs at me (yet), but I can see it being a future issue.

Photographs are also a nightmare too as a previous poster mentioned due to reflections.

Because of all the above, I'm now waiting for a swell 30 x 30 x 45cm with front opening doors to be delivered hopefully within the next 48 hours. I will no doubt be asking your advice later on how the hell to get her out of her current tank!

I will keep the tank but possibly go for some orchid mantis in there.

Thanks for the information all. I had seen cylinders available in Europe for awhile but had not seen them so much in the US, so I was just curious.

My tarantulas, when first rehoused into its new enclosure, tend to walk around the walls or around the edges of the enclosure. They often stop when they reach a corner and sit there until they find the hide, but in a cylindrical enclosure, they might just keep on circling the enclosure. My fossorials also tend to start digging in the corners of the enclosure first, which also give more space inside. It's not for me, but I like how clean it looks. Kind of expensive though, for that kind of price, you can buy another spider instead ;)
Just my 2 cents

Ah good, Spider Shop's finally back up so I can post this. :p

(Scroll down, scroll down)

I have a look at these every time I browse TSS. Again, they look nice, but as a display piece. (OCD, but when you're trying to make the most efficient use of shelf space, even that recessed lid seems to steal too much height!)

I've just moved my versicolour out of one of those into a Swell one with front opening doors. Sure the acrylic cylinders are cheaper but as I mentioned previously they really aren't user friendly! Getting her out from under the rim was a bit stressful for us both and sadly she has flicked a small bald spot now
