Any body know of a good place to get a starter set of dubia to possibly start breeding, or just somewhere i can buy some to see how my Ts take to them?
I've never used dubia as a feeder, but afte all i have read about them, they seem like a great choice for feeders.
Any advice on where to get them? and possibly on breeding and sustaining a successful dubia colony?
Thanks in advance ! :D

I came across another dubia site, that offers water crystals with their dubia starter kit, the kit at Roachcafe doesn't offer them? Do you really need the crystals? or is it just something extra?

I use Oranges. They're cheap, easily obtainable, and its always worked for me.

And dubia is really the way to go? I mean crickets stink, eat each other... and is a rather slow process. Meal and super worms are o.k... last forever, but just dont seem to be enough, feeding my bigger Ts 2 worms a week :/... I dont feed pinkie mice to my Ts, since there is other options...(i find it pretty inhuman to feed mice to Tarantulas)..
Just gathering as much info as possible on the subject, lol.

I only feed crickets/worms when I need to re-build my colony. Roaches are clean, quiet, odorless, and are much meatier than other options.

how much does it cost roughly to maintain a colony... Granted you have far more Ts than I... but by summer, i could be looking at around 25 maybe 30 in my collection total..
Right now with 8 Ts it costs be about 2 bucks a week to feed them crickets, I could maintain a months worth of crickets for 30 Ts for about 10 bucks a month.
Just trying to figure out how the costs will be, if its worth it... lol
( I used to keep around 60 Ts and my feeding bill was only about 6 a month, but i had a cricket farm at the time.)

I keep 150+ Ts, 2 frogs, and a Gecko, on my dubia colony. I buy a bag of cheap oranges, or apples (5lb for $4) once a week (or two), and I buy a big container of high protein Fish Food once every 2 months ($14) That's it.

I think i'll buy a mix assortment of them and try them out, if everythings goes well, ill try maintaining a colony( its hard to meet the temp requirments right now.. 85 to 95 degrees to breed them??)

I do fine at 80-85. and if you can't keep the room that warm you just need a small heat mat (on the side of the bin).

Its pretty cold in ohio, i manage to keep my Ts at 72-77. during spring and summer my T room should be about 80-85.
Thanks for the info Kenny :). As always, you rock!
Hopefully my Ts take to dubia once i get this order, and can start breeding my colony in a month or 2 :).

I don't think they sell adults. I like Cafe, but I rarely buy roaches from them, a I breed my own.

i got mine from dubi deli...they sell female roaches at 50 cents a peice which is really cheap compared to most places..if u are only feeding Ts then just buy 50 of those and 5 males and they will produce plenty of food for ur Ts...if u only have like 10 or less Ts i have a colony of like 2 thousand bc i feed two pyxie frogs which eat like freaken monsters lol
