I think alot of it is laziness, like you said. But..in a general sense, smithy is now hamorri, to casual hobbyists. Because what they thought was a smithi, in most cases, is now identified as a hamorri(yes, it was always a hamorri) Thats where it comes from. I think..Nobody stops to study the fine print, its always that way.
