Hi all!

I'm new here (literally just signed up) and also new to owning tarantulas, but I've been spooping on this forum for a while now.

So, when I came home from work today my curly hair t was laid out on his back with his legs in a position sort of like he was standing, which was very alarming for me. I did a boat load of research on tarantulas and their behavior before I got him, and made sure to read up on the differences between premolt and death curl and what not. I don't have a photo of how he was laying because I was concerned enough that I nudged him with a soft brush and he started flailing around and righted himself.

It looked like the classic premolt pose but he hasn't been doing any of the other things associated with that (no balding patch, he's been eating, moving around just fine, and he didn't make himself a mat). I'm mostly concerned because it does get kind of chilly in the house, usually upper 50s, lower 60s, and I have a heater set up near his tank but I'm worried this might be some kind of sign he's getting too cold.

On the other hand I've noticed he likes to sit on his own face, so I don't know if that's just a thing he decided to do.

Thoughts and advice would be appreciated! Please be gentle :p

Edit: As a side note I realized immediately after I bothered him that I probably shouldn't have.

Hello and welcome :).
Your tarantula is about to moult, they flip over onto their back to moult. Leave him in peace and hopefully he will flip back over and get the job done.
