Advice on starting a sling collection

These guys/gals out there that have like 100 slings, but don't appear to be breeders. Did they really pay like $25+ for each sling, or is there a secret I am missing? How does one go about acquiring such a large number? I'm interested in acquiring a large number of young slings, not picky about species. Thanks

Hello and welcome.

I bought mine one at a time... or 13 at a time in some cases...

$25 would be pretty low for some species. I think you should be selective about what species to work with. Research all the ones that are available and pick some favorites.

I always set a minimum of 5 slings of each individual species depending on if they are $50 or less.
I agree with @Tortoise Tom about being selective.

My only question at this point is "why?" - I mean, I get that hobbyists want tarantulas, but there is something off when someone goes with "I just want to have a huge amount of them, no matter the species..." mentality  Naturally, all of us can do what ever we want to, but I hope that you'll be selective of what you really want and start growing your collection moderately.

If you want to get and sell them, do like Arachnoclown. Just remember the laws of supply and demand.
If you want to get a big collection, use all advice you've gotten so far and start in a selective manner.
If you want to get a huge amount of slings just so you can go "yoooo, I have 12657 slings, I'm not too sure about the species", don't.

I may sound a bit harsh here, but I've seen cases where a person just wanted to have a huge amount of "something cool" without thinking about what happens in the future when they require more space etc. Those are not happy stories.

Anyway, hello and welcome

Psalmopoeus campbridgei, Lasiodora parahybana, look for sp. that have large sacs and are common in the hobby, those will be the cheapest in bulk. Good luck feeding a hundred of either of the sp. mentioned, it will be a chore, and your enthusiasm for so many will go away. Cheers!
