Last time my A. Versicolor had molted was around November 2015. I could clearly see she had gotten fat and was about time she molted again. Her enclosure was a bit small so I thought I'd get her a new one after she would molt. Since she ate a fly, pooped and was still staying in a hunting position, I presumed she was not gonna molt in the coming days so I decided to move her into her new enclosure directly. I gently touched her butt to push her and she got out of her home. I placed her in the new enclosure, the walls of which I had sprayed with small droplets of water. She was moving slow and when she tried to crawl up the walls of the new enclosure, she ended up falling on her back. I thought it was because of the water so I wiped it out. She tried to crawl up again and fell again on her back. I thought the walls were slippery so I got smth sharp and scratched them. When she fell on her back, after some seconds she tried to turn around so I helped her. When I turned her over i noticed....... her carapace was almost completely off and detached
I realized then that she was molting. She was unable to crawl up the wall because of that. I had also destroyed her old home so couldn't put her in. I damped the paper beneath her with water and the walls of the enclosure to rise the humidity, put the enclosure in a dark place and left her there. I was so scared. I didn't know in which position she had planed to molt, on her back or feet but since she tried to turn over when she was on her back, I presumed it would be on her feet. I had a meeting and had to leave the house so couldn't monitor her. Left her there feeling sorry and hoping not to find her dead when I came back
.
I returned after some hours, took a deep breath and went to check her. My sight was directly focused on the place I had left her and I saw smth kind of smashed and my heart almost went out....I thought I'd lost her, she was dead, had gone through a bad molt etc etc...than my eyes caught smth at the top corner of the container :"D she was there! Successfully molted, all good and healthy and almost double sized!!!
I feel very lucky!
Here's some photos before and after her molt. BTW, I don't really know if she is really a 'she', just like to refer to her as such. Can you notice from the picture what gender she might be?!
