So, my Brachypelma Vagans finally molted 3 days ago. He did this in his hidey hole. I'm now worried that he is too big to get back out. Should I start to gently widen his entrance or leave him to do it?

I've had their burrow collapse on them before, first time it freaked me out and i tried to help and dig the spider out. It just made him dig farther into the collapsed burrow. 2nd time i left him be and he dug himself out, then went back down to dig out the collapsed part. I'm sure i could hear him swearing the whole time. ;)

they'll dig out the burrow to fit their new size and push the molt out, or parts of it, with the tailings from the burrow resizing.

I would have panicked too! Bless. Never thought I would be this way about T's but they are my babies.

I feel the same as I've always been scared of spiders. I do find though that many will extend their burrows before they moult, often a clue to an imminent moult.

i just noticed this last night with my B. vagans. he's been hollowing out the corner of the enclosure more and has a nice black spot on his abdomen.

Yes, my boy did this too. Pre moult for a just under a month and two weeks of that he spent hollowing out the burrow, placing a nice carpet and reducing the size of his entrance.

How big is your vagans @Sam Sam ? Mine is 2.5inch diagonal leg span. Mine made its own burrow. I could not find it at first as the entrance to its burrow is pretty pretty small. I could not even believe it at first but I can see its legs inside. Then it completely barricaded itself.

He was around 2" last molt. I didn't get a chance to measure it to be honest so it's just a guess. I'm definitely going to measure this one though (when he stops sitting on top of it)
