Just got my first tarantula! It’s a C. Versicolor.
Kept trying to squirrel his way out of the enclosure, but I ended up winning out in the end! (The bottle cap on the back is to make it easier to feed and water the little guy.)
Googling "plastic bottle stopper" gives some promising leads, as does "rubber bottle stopper".
Edit:
Looks like something like this would be a good bet. [link]
There are a lot of cultures that eat bugs. Pound for pound they're supposedly one of the most efficient types of protein, and are easy to grow in areas that won't support traditional agriculture.
It's not in production yet, the discussions about it were back in 2012 so I think it was more of a...
So there's this terrarium called a "lepsis" that's supposed to be used to grow edible bugs for humans, but all I can think is that its sleek exterior design and geometric scaffolding would make for a really interesting arboreal tarantula setup. Of course it would take some (or a lot of)...
For an adult I bet one of those exo-terra breeding boxes would work (those little feeding hatches are a godsend, I have two pacman frogs that are really, really aggressive feeders) but I'm not sure what you could use for a sling.
So this isn't really a care question, but it's one I've been wondering about. I've been watching body language videos in preparation for the sling I'm going to pick up later this week (assuming my enclosure arrives on time) so that I'll know what to expect.
Why do tarantulas (especially C...
So I'm a total noob to spiders! There's a place near me that has a couple 1" C. Versicolor, but I'm not really sure what size prey I'll need. I have a breeding colony of Dubias for my reptiles, will the smallest size work for a juvenile?
I can feed wax worms or something, but it would be cool...
Aww, how cute! It's kinda funny how it has longer bristles here and there. Makes it look like a wirehair terrier. There's supposed to be one at a pet shop near me according to their website. I think I may go check there and see how they look in person.
I was looking at C. Versicolor, which is supposed to be a little tricky as a sling but I figure if I study their needs well and pick a juvenile instead I can manage it!
They're really cute right? We have Phidippus audax around here and they're so charming.
